Early Life 

Doris Sable was born in West Islip, New York, on April 11, 1965. She was the youngest of eight children reared in Manasquan, New Jersey. In the second grade, she began playing basketball. Kyle Macy, Kelly Tripucka, and Tom Heinsohn were her childhood basketball heroes.

She played as a point guard at Manasquan High School and was recruited by several eastern colleges.

Career 

Doris Burke retired as a professional basketball player after graduating from Providence College in 1990 and began her broadcasting career. Her first job as a female sports analyst was on the radio. Later that year, she began working as a sports analyst for the Big East Women’s games on television.

She began serving in the same capacity for Big East Men’s games in 1996. She was named the lead analyst for ESPN’s WNBA coverage in the same year. Burke became the primary radio and television voice of New York Liberty in 1997. Doris began working as an analyst for the New York Knicks on radio and television in 2000. She was the first woman to work as a radio and television commentator.

She was also the first female analyst for Big East men’s basketball games. She was named one of the top ten ESPN Men’s Basketball Team sideline reporters for ESPN and ABC’s NBA coverage in 2003. She was named the Best New Face in Sports Television by USA Today in 2003. In 2009, she began working for ABC Sports as a sideline reporter for the NBA finals. She began working as a sideline reporter for 2K Sports and NBA 2K11 video games in 2010. Burke accepted a contract with ESPN to work as an NBA pundit in October 2013. In 2012, she received the Silver Anniversary Award for her outstanding sports achievements.
