Malika Rose Andrews (born January 27, 1995) is a sports journalist and reporter based in the United States. She is the new host of NBA Today, which has taken the position of The Jump. She joined ESPN in October 2018 as an online NBA writer and made her broadcasting debut as the network’s youngest sideline reporter during the 2020 NBA Bubble. Andrews was designated one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 in the sports business for 2021 as the network’s only black female NBA reporter.

Early Life

Mike Andrews, a personal trainer, and Caren Andrews, an art teacher, gave birth to Andrews in Oakland, California. She grew up a Golden State Warriors fan. She was expelled from Head-Royce School in eighth grade and later attended a year-round therapeutic boarding school in Utah, graduating in 2012 at the age of 17. Andrews is descended from a Jewish family via her mother and had a bat mitzvah ceremony in 2008.

Andrews met ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski at an NBA Summer League game in 2017 after he read her work at The Beacon. She interned at the Denver Post before joining The New York Times as a James Reston Reporting Fellow in the sports department.

Andrews also worked for the Chicago Tribune for a year before joining ESPN.com as a correspondent covering the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks, subsequently relocating to New York to cover the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. Giannis Antetokounmpo walked out of the press conference following the Bucks’ loss to the Toronto Raptors in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals, upset over an article by Andrews stating that he might leave Milwaukee if the Bucks did not make improvements to win the title before he becomes a free agent in 2021.
